How this works

A boolean search string generator builds a LinkedIn string and a Google X-ray string in the browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server.

("backend engineer" OR "software engineer") AND (Go OR Golang) AND PostgreSQL AND (senior OR staff OR principal) NOT (recruiter OR "staffing agency")
site:linkedin.com/in ("backend engineer" OR "software engineer") (Go OR Golang) PostgreSQL (senior OR staff OR principal) (Berlin OR Munich) -recruiter -"staffing agency"
  1. List title variants (OR) and must-haves (AND). Type Go OR Golang to accept either.
  2. Keep nice-to-haves optional; select the refinement only when narrowing your search. Locations go in the X-ray string; on LinkedIn use the Location filter.
  3. Copy the LinkedIn string, the Google X-ray string, or a link that only refills the fields.

Limits

Nice-to-haves are excluded by default. The optional refinement requires them only when selected. Search engines interpret Boolean syntax differently; check the results before narrowing further.

What you wantLinkedIn search boxGoogle X-ray
Both terms required Go AND PostgreSQL Go PostgreSQL — a space already means AND
Either term is enough (Berlin OR Munich) (Berlin OR Munich)
Exclude a term NOT recruiter -recruiter
Keep a phrase together "product designer" "product designer"
Group alternatives Parentheses around the OR group Parentheses around the OR group
Restrict to one site Not applicable — you are already inside LinkedIn site:linkedin.com/in

LinkedIn does not support wildcards: there is no * standing in for the rest of a word, so spell the variants out as an OR group instead. LinkedIn publishes its own operator list in Use Boolean to filter search results in Recruiter, and the ordinary search box accepts the same AND, OR, NOT, quote, and parenthesis syntax. Metix does not log into LinkedIn and does not run the search for you.

Who uses it

Who uses it

  • Recruiters who want a repeatable string instead of retyping a query for every role.
  • Founders sourcing their first hires who have never written a boolean query before.
  • Hiring managers checking whether their must-have list is so long that nobody matches all of it.
